What is craniosacral therapy?
Craniosacral Therapy releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction. Practitioners release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system. Dr. Eisenheim’s approach allows the mind-body to reveal the real cause of any condition, be it physical, emotional, or spiritual. The beauty of this method is that it directly engages the body’s own self-healing processes to resolve the condition. This extremely gentle yet powerful approach produces lasting and permanent changes by connecting the patient to their inherent health that underlies any condition – leaving the person independent and resilient.
Pioneered and developed by Osteopathic Physician John E. Upledger after years of clinical testing and research at Michigan State University where he served as professor of biomechanics, the craniosacral system consists of the membranes and fluid that surround, protect and nourish the brain and spinal cord. Dr. Eisenheim looks for any restrictions in the craniosacral system through detecting changes in motion and rhythm in different places in the body. Restrictions are then released, and more fluidity and health is created in the system.
By normalizing the environment around the brain and spinal cord and enhancing the body’s ability to self-correct, craniosacral therapy is able to alleviate a wide variety of dysfunctions, from chronic pain and sports injuries to symptoms after a stroke and neurological impairment.
Here’s an inspiring story of what can happen during and after a session:
“I have suffered from chronic back and neck pain for over 20 years. And recently I have struggled with tremendous pain in my arthritic hands. The pain drove me to tears and nothing was helping such as pain or anti-inflammatory medication. My hands were so stiff and painful that I had to stop doing many tasks that required dexterity such as embroidery. I was becoming very depressed. So I contacted Dr. Eisenheim to try some Craniosacral work. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical of getting any results. However, as she began to work on me I felt the pain in my neck, back and hands begin to melt away. After the hour-long session I felt like a new woman! My energy level increased dramatically, my back and neck were relaxed and I was able to move my hands without discomfort. I look forward to further improvement with additional sessions! Dr. Eisenheim is the best!”

Visceral manipulation-what is it?
A type of manual therapy that mainly addresses the viscera(organs), this approach can also help address any imbalances in the organs and the parts of the nervous system related to those organs. In this way, healing chronic abdominal pain, IBS, fatty liver, digestive issues, such as acid reflux, constipation and diarrhea, and SIBO, can be helped. The pressure used with visceral manipulation is typically deeper than with craniosacral. It feels like a belly massage. It is also hands on and clothes on.
Jean-Pierre Barral’s(creator of VM) famous dictum, “Only the tissues know,” expresses that the tissues in the body have a deep and innate intelligence. Everything that has happened in our lives—injuries, diseases, stressors, etc.—is recorded in our tissues. At the core of Visceral Manipulation (VM) is ‘listening’ to the tissues with our hands. Through manual listening techniques, we listen for areas of restrictions in the body and help those areas release these restrictions to become more healthy and mobile.
After nearly completely recovering from late-stage Lyme disease, I came to Dr. Eisenheim for help with SIBO(small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), upper right quadrant pain, and air hunger (I kept running out of breath). After receiving visceral manipulation for the first time, I had relief from my daily right-sided abdominal pain for more than two weeks, the longest period of relief I’d felt in a year of having the pain. And, it continued to improve.

Holistic approach: Instead of treating separate symptoms, these therapies treats the whole person, which results in benefits much greater than alleviating the original health complaint.
“I was grateful to be able to have a Craniosacral session with Dr. Eisenheim. At the moment I was struggling with lethargy, stagnation, depression; in addition to tending to a diagnosis of Cervical Dysplasia. These challenges were impacting me, mostly as symptoms in my body: stuck feelings in my muscles, low motivation, and shame. I was experiencing fear in regard to the possibility of my Cervical Dysplasia becoming cancerous, aware of a foreign element in my body. I wanted to activate myself so I would be able to go forward with courage to work with natural medicines in combination with a minor surgery, and not let fear freeze me from self-nurturing.
During the session, I felt immediate relief and was encouraged to invite ease within my body. Dr. Eisenheim intuitively tuned into the womb area, and also received images of flower helpers, like calendula. With this a sense of hope, and unity with my body’s natural capacity to heal emerged. The currency of energies in my body began to circulate, my musculature and breathing (diaphragm) released, freeing up from stress that was creating blockages. Dr. Eisenheim consistently checked in with a dialogue, creating a dance between what my body was experiencing as well as my personal perceptions and emotions. I felt calm and so incredibly cared for. Several days later, my lethargy discharged, and I have been able to wake-up early and face my days with purpose. I am grateful to see that the session generated a shift!”

“What a true blessing this session was as I had been needing some cranial sacral work. It addressed current issues and some underlying concerns. Not knowing what to expect I was amazed at the intuitive and accurate results. I feel more opened energetically and connected to my center being. As well as a clarity of mind. Thank you for your feedback and useful suggestions. This is the medicine of the future. “

What is a typical session like?
Sessions are clothes on and hands on and use a light touch. Every session begins with a check-in. The patient shares what is presently coming up for them, and sets their intention for the work. Verbal sharing in itself has a therapeutic effect, and setting of an intention organizes the field of the session around it. Connection to the self-healing force, is established during this time. This is followed by the therapeutic, active part of the session, which usually lasts 40-45 minutes. To begin, we do a grounding exercise to arrive and become present. During this time, Dr. Eisenheim helps you to connect to the self-healing force that is a manifestation of one’s Health, and allows it to process whatever pathology or disease that may be present. During this time, she accompanies you through the journey of self-healing, in safety and with support. The session also removes hindrances to the patient’s self-healing ability. At the end of the active part of the session, the energetic field is released. The active part of the session is then followed by a verbal integration period, where impressions of the session are shared, and sense is made of the experience.
How long is a typical session?
For current patients, a session lasts about an hour. For new patients, an hour and half is needed to review medical history and discuss the course of treatment.
How long will it take to resolve my health issue?
It really is a different journey for everyone, depending on a number of factors, such as how long you’ve been sick for, what you’re sick with, your nutrition, lifestyle, the state of your mind, other illnesses you may have, other treatments you are engaged in and if there’s any trauma in your background. Typically, it takes at least 4 sessions to get started working on a chronic issue and can take up to 10 sessions to resolve it. That said, some patients recover more quickly than this and some take more time. This is discussed at the first session and typically every 3-4 sessions thereafter.
“When we first started working together, I was feeling stressed and was having trouble focusing. I was not as efficient at work or at home and was feeling anxious. In our cranial sacral appointment I noticed shifts happening during the session and I felt lighter and more peaceful after the session.
I felt my brow relax as tension disappeared from my face, and now, 4 hours later, I STILL feel so relaxed. I know I am going to sleep well tonight. During the session I was surprised that Dr. Eisenheim was able to identify areas of tension in my body, it was incredible! This was my first cranial sacral appointment. It truly helped balance my body and created ease and relaxation in my mind and body. I am grateful for this experience and highly recommend it! Thank you Dr. Eisenheim!”

“Suffering from seasonal allergies and sinus headaches, thought that craniosacral therapy could help. I felt tired, headaches were daily and I had to take Tylenol several times a day to deal with sinus headaches. I also felt cranky due to the symptoms, and sometimes lightheaded with sinus pressure. I was very surprised after the first session was done remotely that I felt very relaxed and a bit lighter. After the second session, I felt better than the first. I feel less clogged up in my head, less headaches and there are more positive feelings of well-being. I have been able to take less Tylenol or none at all. I am very surprised and happy with the results so far.”

“A craniosacral session was offered and the impact was immediately noticeable when she helped identify a deeper root to some of the illness, always in the calm and steady approach, the session tapped into my mental and emotional wellness. The following day I felt more integrated in my body and supported by the process in the session, I was able to direct my emotional healing to the areas of pain that were discovered in the session. I have a deep trust and respect for Dr. Eisenheim as a doctor who sees the many layers in healing, and her openness to explore these and talk about them. I felt listened to and seen, and when one is in struggle with illness, this itself is a healing gift. Thank you Dr. Eisenheim, your wealth of knowledge and humble approach has made a difference in how I know care can be given and received.”

Imagine experiencing the transformation of a craniosacral session right from the comfort and safety of your own home. No traffic to beat or errands to run afterwards, you can just stay in the session for as long as you want, until you are ready to get up. And you don’t have to worry if it’s safe or not to have the session because there is no in person contact.

You might be wondering who this can this help. Here’s a few situations:
Someone in pain, could be headaches, back pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, burning pains with swelling, abdominal pain.
Someone who is having trouble focusing and concentrating.
Someone who is feeling depressed, low energy, emotionally stuck and wanting support to move forward with a life decision.
This is also especially helpful in times of chaos and uncertainty in the world, such as now, as our society is transitioning to something different, and hopefully more just, sane and harmonious with the earth!

One of the benefits of doing craniosacral remotely is the convenience and safety of getting to have a session in your own home and having a more potent session because you are paying more attention to your body sensations, instead of relying on the practitioner to tell you how you’re feeling or what they’re noticing in your body. This is ultimately a more empowering process than an in-person session and you get to really learn that you are the one doing the healing, and the practitioner is just guiding the process. This is also more accessible to people who cannot climb a flight of stairs!
Can this also work for visceral manipulation work?
Yes, if you were previously receiving manual therapy that was mainly addressing the viscera(organs), this approach can also help address any imbalances in the organs and the parts of the nervous system related to those organs. In this way, healing chronic abdominal pain, IBS, fatty liver, digestive issues, such as acid reflux, constipation and diarrhea can be helped.
